Outlook for Mac 2011 is replacing Microsoft Entourage as the email client for Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Outlook for Mac is not an exact clone of Outlook for Windows, but users will find the transition between platforms easier. It still has some of Entourage’s features, but don’t expect it to be Entourage disguised as Outlook.
There is still a database but each item like messages, contacts, events, notes, tasks are now stored outside the database. More info on the database According to the Outlook development team, the database is there purely to optimize search and other non-essential routines. Outlook users can use Time Machine to backup! For Exchange 2007 or higher users this is a must upgrade. For Entourage users plagued with database corruption or the webcore crashes, don’t stop but go directly to upgrading to Outlook 2011.
