Palatino is my favorite font. But since installing Mavericks, superscripting doesn’t work right in Microsoft Word.
According to Kurt Lang, author of Font Management in OS X the Palatino font supplied by Mavericks is flawed.
1) Remove the Palatino font from the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder and use the same named font installed by Mountain Lion or Lion. Both work correctly.

Microsoft has released its Lync for Mac 2011 14.0.8 update. This update resolves two issues:
Enables OS X Mavericks support Resolves an issue where a delegate doesn’t receive notification when he is made a delegate
Mavericks support now includes the following fixes:

Both Office 2004 and Office 2008 are End of Life applications. This means they are not longer supported and will receive no updates or fixes. Office 2008 does run under Mavericks. There are a few issues, but no show stoppers. See this post for more info. Users that are still using Office 2004, will have to upgrade to a newer version of Office or move to Apple’s applications. Office 2004 will run under Snow Leopard . . .

Office 2008 applications will open with a new window after the upgrade to Mavericks. While it’s not a show stopper to close the window, it seems to greatly annoy some users.
The fix is NOT to launch from the Dock. Launch directly from Applications or use a launcher. You can even put an alias on your Desktop to launch.
