Send & Receive Basics If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration You can try re-entering info. Autodiscover in Outlook is a big improvement when creating our account settings. If your company’s DNS settings for Autodiscover is not set correctly, Autodiscover will reset your custom settings under Advanced Settings. When this happens Outlook will fail to connect.
For example, a user reported the following:
I set the Exchange Server to be: https://mail.microautomation.com and after it connects, the URL changes to: https://mail.microaut.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
The fact that this is happening implies that the Autodiscover response for this user’s server . . .

Exchange is the brand name of Microsoft’s enterprise E-mail messaging server product. It supports standard POP and IMAP accounts as well as Exchange accounts.
Exchange accounts differ in that they synchronize mail, calendars and contacts via one protocol. Other mail systems may support these different services but usually they do so via a collection of protocols such as IMAP, CalDAV and LDAP.
