Microsoft releases Office 2011 for Mac 14.0.1 Update

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac 14.0.1 Update. (110.5 MB)

According to the update’s description this update addresses a critical issues in Office 2011 that may cause applications to stop responding or quit unexpectedly. It also addresses security issues that would allow an attacker to run malicious code on the computer.

Entourage coexists with Office 2011 Home & Student

Now that an email client is not included in the Home & Student version of Office 2011, users are asking ‘can I continue to use Entourage’? The answer is yes! See  Microsoft KB: 2394241 for full details.  You cannot find Entourage 2008 after installing Office for Mac 2011

Office 2011 DVDs purchased from Best Buy fail on older computers

It seems that the Office 2011 DVDs purchased from Best Buy cannot be used on older computers that do not have a “superdrive”.  You need a drive that can read double layered DVDs.

One user reported he returned it to the store and they attached a ”superdrive” unit via USB port and Office 2011 was able to be installed. I suggest making a disk image in case you need to re-install in the future.

Academic version available for Office 2011

Microsoft will offer an academic edition for Office 2011. The Academic edition of Office 2011 is available only to higher education students and contains one activation. It is equivalent to the Home & Business edition (contains Outlook with Exchange support) but is not available to the general public. Students must purchase their copy through qualified educational channels.

Office 2011 will install on new 11.6 inch Macbook Air

The new 11.6 inch Macbook Air has a 1366 X 768 resolution and the minimum system requirements for Office 2011 requires a 1200 X 800 resolution screen.

Office 2011 will install. Apple stores have it installed if you want to check it out. Be aware that the overall Mac Office ‘experience’ could be different on the lower resolution.

MSDN and TechNet to offer Office for Mac 2011

Our sources at Microsoft have confirmed that Office for Mac 2011 will be available as a download for Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) and TechNet subscribers. This will be the first time Office for Mac has been offered by either of these services.
