Issues with Mavericks and Office for Mac – How to troubleshoot

Office for Mac 2008 and 2011 are both compatible with OS X 10.9.0 Mavericks. Some users have no issues while others are having minor issues and a few users are having major issues. If you have not upgraded, I suggest you wait until 10.9.1 or 10.9.2 is released.

Office 2011 Font Management with Mavericks

Dealing with Duplicates

Currently, the Office 2011 installer removes some Apple duplicate fonts and moves them to Fonts Disabled folder in the main Library. This helps with the duplicate font issue, but they don’t remove all duplicates.

In addition to the fonts that were disabled by the installer, you also need to disable the following duplicate fonts from the Library/Fonts/Microsoft folder. A newer version TrueType font is available in the Library/Fonts folder.

Microsoft releases Office for Mac 2011 14.1.4 Update

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.1.4 Update. (113 MB) This one update includes the three prior updates 14.1.1 through 14.1.3.

According to the update’s description this update fixes “extremely important issues” and addresses security issues.

The security issue addressed (MS11-089) corrects a remote code execution vulnerability across both Windows and Mac versions of Office. It does not state, however, whether Macs are indeed vulnerable to these attacks.

It’s update Tuesday. Microsoft released the following updaters today. Download directly from the links provided or use Auto Update to download. Microsoft releases Office 2011 for Mac 14.1.2 Update

Microsoft has released the 14.1.2 Update for Office 2011 (108.9MB). Updaters do not include an uninstaller. Make sure you have a backup and/or zip the Microsoft Office folder in Applications first in case you need to revert. Be sure to read the update FAQs before updating.

Microsoft releases Office 2011 for Mac SP1 (14.1.0) Update

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac SP1 (14.1.0) Update. (246 MB)

According to the update’s description this update adds functionality and improves security, stability, reliability and performance.

The first security issue addressed (MS11-021) corrects nine reported remote code execution vulnerabilities. The second security issue addressed (MS11-022) corrects remote code execution vulnerabilities specific to PowerPoint. Neither bulletin states whether or not Macs are vulnerable to these attacks.

“Remove Office” is missing in Outlook 2011
