Resolve missing volume license when installing Office for Mac 2011

Microsoft has been able to reproduce an issue affecting volume license customers where the institution’s Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 license goes missing after updating to the Office for Mac 14.2.0 update (SP2) or the Office for Mac 14.2.1 update. This has affected both enterprise and educational institutions.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD Service Pack 2 (SP2) 14.2.0. This update contains problems that were fixed in 14.2.1. You can go directly from 14.1.0 or higher to 14.2.1. SKIP the 14.2.0 updater. [Added May 3, 2012]

If you get the following error “Your identity is older than this version of Outlook” you will need to revert to Office 2011 v14.1.4 in order to repair your identity.

Service Pack 2 (SP2) 14.2.0 is now available to download

DO NOT DOWNLOAD Service Pack 2 (SP2) 14.2.0. This update contains problems that were fixed in 14.2.1. You can go directly from 14.1.0 or higher to 14.2.1. SKIP the 14.2.0 updater.

Microsoft released Service Pack 2 (SP2) 14.2.0 on April 12, 2012. You can download via the Autoupdater or directly from Microsoft downloads.

All browsers need to be quit along with SyncServices, Microsoft Database daemon and all Microsoft applications. The easy way to do this is to Log out under the Apple in the Menu . . .

Service Pack 2 (SP2) 14.2.0 Warnings for Outlook users

Microsoft released Service Pack 2 (SP2) 14.2.0 on April 12, 2012. Before you update be aware of the following issues.

The update moves several Microsoft User Data (MUD) files to ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/, but does not remove the originals. Unfortunately, some of the files are not copied.
