Office for Mac 2011 14.2.0 volume license installer leaves application folder world-writable

In his post titled Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac: The Jackpot Vulnerabilty, Mac administrator Dave Castelletti exposed a serious new vulnerability introduced by the recently updated Office for Mac 2011 14.2.0 volume license installer. Other Mac administrators have verified his findings.

Microsoft releases Office 2008 for Mac 12.3.3 Update

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.3.3 Update. (218 MB) This one update includes the 18 prior updates 12.1.1 through 12.3.2.

According to the update’s description it addresses two new security issues.

The security fixes (MS12-029 and MS12-030) correct remote code execution vulnerability across both Windows and Mac versions of Office, however, Macs are not vulnerable to these attacks according to each knowledge base article.

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.2.2 Update. (110 MB) This one update includes the five prior updates 14.1.1 through 14.2.1.

Under File > Export you can select to export all your data as .olm file. This file can be used as backup or to move your data into a new Identity. Do you get “Done” at the end or do you get “one or more items failed to export”? If you do not get “Done”, all your data was not exported.

Microsoft has been able to reproduce an issue affecting volume license customers where the institution’s Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 license goes missing after updating to the Office for Mac 14.2.0 update (SP2) or the Office for Mac 14.2.1 update.
