  • Darian

After upgrading some emails are not showing. i see them arrive but they don’t show. i know they are there because i can see them on ios device and web mail. it seems this update has broken some things.

strange behavior in outlook since the last update. Mail notice comes up but the mail is not shown. Also the tags/numbers on unread messages are showing while the mail folder is empty… no thanks microsoft, this is bad and going back in time for a good working product it seems…

Avoid this 14.1.3 update if you use Outlook. Since I upgraded Outlook crashes on every launch. I’ll have to restore from a backup.

After installation I cannot connect to my company’s Exchange 2007 -account with Outlook 2011. What changes I need to do to Exchange account settings now?

    • It should not have changed anything. I’ll check the Microsoft forums and see if others are reporting the same issue.

      • Antti

The only way I could repair the situation was that I had to uninstall and re-install Office 2011, install Office 2011 update 14.1.10 SP1, remove the Outlook 2011 identity from “Microsoft User Data” -folder (it was “contaminated” with update 14.1.3), and set up the Exchange -account from scratch.
I was VERY FORTUNATE not having any messages / calendar markings / address book entries in my own computer, as they would have been lost due to “contaminated” Outlook 2011 identity.

I sincerely hope that this is not Microsoft’s normal way of conducting software repairs.

      • See my reply to qazokmubec below for changes that affect Exchange connection.

I am having a similar issue that Outlook used to connect to my server when I was off campus, however it does not do that anymore, is that what you are trying to do?

  • Whoa

Don’t use this update!!! I totally lost my connection to Exchange 2007 server!!!

PROBLEM WITH THIS DOWNLOAD … Outlook won’t even open after this update – I then had to uninstall outlook and then I reinstalled the previous Outlook from Time Machine – bloody disaster – do MS not check these issues before release. I must say that especially Outlook 2011 – is a really big letdown – all show and no substance – poor, very poor….

Still no fix for the error we get when doing Spotlight searches for emails…”message does not belong to the current identity”…even though there is only one identity on the Mac. Rebuild database…no help. Rebuild Spotlight…no help. Same but in reverse order…no help.

    Don

    • Hi Don, did you have previous Identities that are still on your computer?

Is the search in Outlook or using the Finder Spotlight search?

If the search is in Outlook then it’s the database. Don’t rebuild Exchange Identities. If Exchange account only then create a new Identity. If you have other accounts, delete Exchange and IMAP accounts then rebuild. Add server accounts back after the rebuild. Personally, I would always start in a new Identity over rebuilding. Might not be a bad idea to create a base Identity so you can easily duplicate to start over if there are problems.

I’m having problems with this update. I get a popup saying I’ve got mail but the only way to get the messages to appear in my inbox is to close Outlook completely and then open it again.

I’ve also got a mailbox which outlook constantly reports as having the wrong password. The password is correct – and I can see mails on iPhone and webmail. Other accounts on the same mail server work fine in Outlook.

When will these bugs be fixed?

    • There was a database upgrade in this updater. I suggest that you create a new Identity and see if that solves your problem. If yes, then export your data as .olm file from your old Identity and import into the new Identity.

Remember we aren’t Microsoft so we can’t answer questions like when a bug will be fixed.

I have noticed a change in appearance and behavior for email notifications. The notifications now have Delete and Follow Up buttons along the bottom of the notification window. Outlook now always becomes unhidden and active when a new message notification displays rather than displaying just the notification.

This is a little frustrating especially since this was not in the list of changes.

    Hi,

After this update, I’m not able to connect to my companies exchange 2007 server (with sp3). I cleared my identity and recreated it, it didn’t help either.

    Best Regards,

    • This was posted on Answers by a user:

Turns out my exchange server had the wrong autodiscover URL in the service connection
It was set to my .local exchange DNS entry and not the OWA URL

With the new 14.1.3 update MS is preparing their apps to use the cloud based office 365. Now when launching Outlook it pulls all your settings from Exchange and overwrites any manual setting you enter. There is a script that can be run to not pull exchange info but I chose to not use it and instead fix the real issue at hand.

I followed this KB article and ran the command in Exchange Management Shell to fix:

      Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity Exchange -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri https://exchange.xxxx.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity “Exchange\EWS (Default Web Site)” -InternalUrl https://exchange.xxxx.com/ews/exchange.asmx

Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity “Exchange\oab (Default Web Site)” -InternalUrl http://exchange.xxxx.com/oab

      (xxxx = my domain)

Just attempted the install via the auto-update feature of Office, received a failure notice during the install, and the update reported it could not complete.

Went to reinstall after a manual download of the updater from Mactopia and now receive message stating unable to find a version of the software required to install the package.

Upon opening Word, it reports v14.1.3. Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint all report v14.1.2 with 14.1.3 installed. Not sure what that is worth.

Hoping everything works okay… Strange voodoo.

  • Drew Flowers

Wound up having to uninstall Office (used the script here: http://www.office.mvps.org/install/reinstall_office2011.html ) and reinstalling.

Following my update to 14.1.3, Outlook took a nosedive and would not operate properly (kept crashing with each notification attempt for calendar entries). This forced me to do the reinstall which completed flawlessly and the subsequent update to 14.1.3 also installed without a glitch this time around.

All apps report 14.1.3 and Outlook appears to be functioning correctly at this time.

Sending a bill for my time wasted to Microsoft…

  • Alexander

Today I was not able to open Outlook 2011 after the upgrade to 14.1.3. It would crash each time. I followed instructions I found on the Microsoft support site to verify that the version of Outlook on my machine had been upgraded properly. I discovered that Outlook was still listed as version 14.1.2 despite running the upgrade. I searched the Microsoft website for the 14.1.3 upgrade and reinstall the file. This has resolved my problem and Outlook opened without a problem. Perhaps this explanation will help some users that have experienced difficulties with the latest upgrade to Office 2011 for Mac.

A disaster of an update. I lost all of my Word Lecture notes saved in the Audio Note Template. The audio parts in the Note would still be there but all the text are gone. Not a single trace. Blank.

  • Yannis

Update installed ok, but there seems to be a new behavior in Outlook: the Outlook window becomes visible (even if I had the app hidden) when new emails arrive. Is there a way to disable this ‘feature?’ I did not see anything in the Preferences.

    Thanks.

    • Outlook Preferences > Notifications & Sounds, try unchecking “Display an alert on my desktop”. Let me know if this fixes this.

      • Jacob

@Diane yes, that does stop the behavior, but it ALSO stops the alerts all together, which is no good. The original behavior is you get alerts but the main window stays hidden, it almost defeats the purpose of the alerts, which is to give you a quick non-invasive note of what is coming in without blocking your view of other applications.

  • Scott

    Diane,
Same issue for me… With alerts ON, i get the alert AND the entire Outlook window comes out of hiding. What we all want is for ONLY the alert window to appear. This used to happen, but now we get both the alert AND main window. That toggle you refer to turns off all alerts AND main window.

I think we need tweo radio buttons; one for show/hide alert dialog, and one for show/hide main window.

    Thank you, Scott K.
