Communicator 13.1.2 update addresses Lion crashing

Microsoft has released the Microsoft Communicator for Mac 2011 13.1.2 Update, which addresses a crashing issue in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) when sending an instant message or starting an audio or video call. Communicator for Mac is only available to Office for Mac volume license customers and is not available to the general public.

This update requires the Microsoft Communicator for Mac 2011 13.1 Update or later. The 13.1 and 13.1.1 updates are only available via the Microsoft AutoUpdate utility (MAU) accessible by selecting Check for Updates from the Help menu in any Office for Mac application. The 13.1.2 update is available as a downloadable updater for the first time as well as the MAU utility.

After downloading the update via MAU, administrators should copy the updated application from their ~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/ folder before quitting. Quitting will delete the recently downloaded updates. The udpates can be deployed using Apple Remote Desktop or most other deployment tools. More information about deployment is available in the Communicator for Mac 2011 Deployment Guide.

Enterprise administrators on the MacEnterprise mailing list as well as users on Microsoft Answers are confirming that this update does enable them to IM, video conference and share desktops while running on Lion.
