Add account setups to Outlook for Mac’s auto configuration file

This one’s for you, administrators!

Outlook for Mac has nearly 200 pre-configured POP and IMAP account configurations to assist users with auto-configuration of their accounts. Anyone who has set up a Comcast, Gmail, MobileMe or other common account has simply entered his E-mail address and Outlook has taken care of the server names, port settings and the rest of the configuration.

I’ve posted instructions detailing how administrators can modify the autoConfigDB.xml file to add their . . .

Print to PDF and attach to Outlook for Mac

This isn’t a new feature but it’s worth a reminder that PDFs can be printed directly to Outlook as attachments. I mentioned this feature in the Office for Mac forums a few days ago in response to my post about using Automator to create a similar service and folks have really enjoyed the tip. It has that gee-whiz factor and comes in handy when you want to send your current document to someone via E-mail.

Use Casper to deploy and manage Office for Mac 2011

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend JAMF Software‘s National User Group held in downtown Minneapolis and speak about deploying and managing Office 2011 using their product Casper. Although 97 folks had RSVPed, my guess is that at least 120 were present.

My company has been using Casper to manage our Macs around the world for the past six years and because JAMF is a Twin Cities company, we’ve had close ties to their product . . .

Customize Word 2011’s ribbon and enable more features

Word 2011’s ribbon may appear to be locked to a default set of tabs and functions but it’s actually more customizable than its sibling applications Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Users can choose whether or not to display the ribbon at all, view tabs or rearrange tabs. Behavior between each Office 2011 application is inconsistent, so some settings need to be accessed in different ways.

Keyboard shortcuts disappearing in Outlook for Mac

Sometimes, certain keyboard shortcuts in Outlook will work and other times they won’t. Often, they will work once and then stop working until Outlook is restarted. For the most part this is a simple conflict with an item in the Services menu.

I’ve seen this happen with two different keyboard shortcuts:

Shift + Command + R = Message menu –> Reply All Shift + Command + M = Message menu –> Move –> . . .

Outlook crashes & hangs

Is Outlook constantly asking to be rebuilt, hanging or crashing? Unlike Microsoft Entourage, which stores messages within the Database file and creates one multi-megabyte or even multi-gigabyte file, Outlook stores messages separately from the Database file. You can read all about the new database in Outlook, Outlook, how does your Database grow? Even though we have a new improved database there are still issues. Many involve the initial import into Outlook. Let’s first look at . . .
