Office 2011 DVDs purchased from Best Buy fail on older computers

It seems that the Office 2011 DVDs purchased from Best Buy cannot be used on older computers that do not have a “superdrive”.  You need a drive that can read double layered DVDs.

One user reported he returned it to the store and they attached a “superdrive” unit via USB port and Office 2011 was able to be installed. I suggest making a disk image in case you need to re-install in the future.

I purchased my copy from Best Buy online and did store pickup. Got home and installed on my Macbook Pro 17″ (latest gen) and activation PIN would not work. Called Microsoft and they informed me that between 10/26 and 10/29 that roughly 500 copies of Office 2011 Home and Business had bad PIN numbers and Best Buy would be in contact with those specific customers. When I called Best Buy they had no knowledge of this and played transfer the customer for more than 45 minutes.

Awaiting response today before calling back to demand a response. Don’t know why Microsoft couldn’t activate the PIN if provided the BB order number. Will respond if anything comes about.
