Previously, we have advised that users can run both Office 2004 and Office 2008 at the same time except for Entourage. After applying SP1, users can run both Entourage 2004 and Entourage 2008 at the same time.
Did your problem get addressed in SP1? Following are improvements that will surely make a lot of users happy.

Key improvements:

Stability

  1. Stability is improved when you use the Switch Identity dialog. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to quit unexpectedly if you run an AppleScript script or click a mailto: link when the Switch Identity dialog is open. This issue was fixed due to customer submissions via the Microsoft Error Reporting system (MERP).
  2. Reliability and stability are improved when you use the Microsoft Database Utility. This update fixes an issue that causes the Microsoft Database Utility to quit unexpectedly or prevents the utility from working correctly when you attempt to verify, compact, or rebuild an Entourage database.
  3. Stability is improved when you scroll through an e-mail message that contains complex HTML. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to stop responding when you use a mouse scroll wheel or a trackpad gesture to scroll through the contents of an e- mail message that contains complex HTML.

Sync Services

  1. Stability is improved for Microsoft Sync Services. This update fixes an issue that, in some cases, causes Microsoft Sync Services to quit unexpectedly, such as when it attempts to sync a calendar event that was saved as an .ics file and was imported into the Entourage calendar in Apple iCal. Performance is improved when you switch to the calendar. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to perform slowly when you switch to the calendar.
  2. Contacts and calendar events are not duplicated when you first sync with an iPhone. This update fixes an issue that causes duplicate contacts and calendar events to appear in Entourage after you synchronize your contacts and calendar events with an iPhone or iPod Touch via iTunes for the first time.

Accounts

  1. Stability and error handling are improved when you use a POP account. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to stop responding when it encounters a “bad message” error while connected to a POP mail account. Now, Entourage will skip bad messages and continue to download the remaining e-mail messages in the POP account.
  2. Gmail accounts are now automatically configured to use IMAP. This update changes the default configuration for Gmail accounts in Entourage to use the IMAP protocol instead of the POP protocol.
  3. Count of unread mail is improved for IMAP accounts. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to display the count of unread messages on the IMAP server. Now, Entourage counts the number of messages that have not yet been read on the computer running Entourage.

Attachments

  1. Stability is improved when you open an e-mail message that contains an attachment. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to quit unexpectedly when you open an e-mail message that contains an attachment.
  2. PDF attachments are preserved. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to convert the first page of a PDF attachment into a PNG image when the PDF attachment is dragged to the body of the e-mail message. PDF attachments are now sent in their entirety, without conversion.
  3. Zipped file attachments that contain a forward slash in the file name are sent correctly. This update fixes an issue that prevents Entourage from sending zipped file attachments that contain a forward slash (/) in the file name.
  4. Open files on network file shares are handled correctly when you try to send an open file as an attachment. For users of Intel-based Macintosh computers, this update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to perform slowly or stop responding when you try to send a file that is open on another computer as an e-mail attachment. Now, a message appears to let you know that the file is open on another computer.

Text/Font/Hyperlinks

  1. Text in e-mail messages retains its original font size when sent from non- English versions of Entourage. This update fixes an issue that causes the font size for text in e-mail messages to increase each time the message is sent or included in a reply. This issue affects users of non-English versions of Entourage.
  2. E-mail messages that contain hyperlinks are displayed correctly. This update fixes an issue that causes Entourage to display some e-mail messages that contain hyperlinks incorrectly. The issue causes the text that follows a hyperlink to appear with a color and font style than is different than expected.
  3. Hyperlink support is improved. This update fixes a number of issues that cause Entourage to display hyperlinks incorrectly, including long hyperlinks, hyperlinks that contain extended characters, and hyperlinks that are surrounded by double quotation marks.
  4. HTML signatures are displayed correctly. This update fixes an issue that causes some HTML signatures to display HTML markup in the body of an e-mail message.

Date/Time

  1. Imported e-mail messages retain their original Received date and time. This update fixes an issue that causes the Received date and time of an imported e-mail message to change to the date and time when it was imported into Entourage.

I’m always apprehensive about installing new versions of any software, however, Office 08 for the Mac is something I’m interested in. I send eNewsletters (Dreamweaver html) layouts using the script, “Send Complex HTML with Inline Files 2004” by Buckley.
Works well, but has MS addressed this issue with Entourage 08?

Entourage 2008 had a very significant under-the-hood update to its HTML display engine – moving from Tasman (the old Internet Explorer engine) to WebKit (the Safari engine). However, creating complex HTML is not a feature that has been addressed.
I suggest that you send feedback to make your wishes known. Even though it seems a long time away that Office 2010 will be released, the feature set is being discussed now.
    Send feedback to Microsoft .
When working in Office, you can use the “Send Feedback” option under the Help menu in all of the Office applications or use the MSFT site:
