Trim attachments

Rob Griffiths’ Macworld OS X Hint Trim Mail attachments this week was about trimming attachments in Apple Mail. You can also trim attachments in Entourage using a script.

There are two scripts available to remove attachments from incoming mail.

Both scripts will save, remove and link the saved files to the message, so you can open the file directly from the message. . . .

Don’t waste time with unbusinesslike signatures

This is a rant.

At work I spend a fair portion of my time looking up phone numbers, weeding through E-mail messages and cleaning up E-mail replies. My job in IT requires me to respond to a lot of messages for help and, in turn, request help from others. The majority of my business correspondence is with the users I support, IT folks within my organization and external vendors. To get what I want from . . .

Why does syncing play Gossip with my contacts?

When Steve Jobs announced the iPhone at Macworld 2007, I was one of the thousands of attendees gawking at the phone in its crystal case flanked with security guards. The announcement generated more questions than answers. As an Entourage 2004 user and a prospective iPhone owner I wanted to hear “… and it will sync with Entourage!” but nobody knew until a short while before the iPhone was released in June that it would indeed . . .

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.6 update released

Microsoft has released the 11.3.6 update for Office 2004. (15.2 MB) The update requires that the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.5 Update be installed first. Download them both from Mactoptia, use the Microsoft AutoUpdate application or simply select the Check For Updates command from the Help menu in any Office 2004 application. [Please note the MS Update is not causing problems, but the latest Apple iTunes 7.3.1 and Quicktime 7.2 Updaters are causing problems . . .

Badd badd Speling

I am NOT a happy camper!!! There are a great deal of things I love in Entourage, but the spell-checker implementation really needs some work. I suspect that for most people who use Entourage in one language and one language only, it’s OK, but for people like me who often send e-mails in more than one language, or for people writing in languages not natively supported, it’s a real pain. It’s not even in par with the one in Word. This is an area of Entourage that clearly didn’t get as much attention as it should have. Here is a (short) list of things that I really really would like to see improved in Entourage:

  • limited number of languages supported
  • you can select only one custom dictionary
  • you need a zillion clicks to switch between dictionaries
  • you can’t set the default language associated with a specific account
